Bike4Baghdad

22 June 2012

Every so often people come to St Kilda to undertake or as part of a challenge. On Tuesday Rev. David Post arrived on one of the day boats with the aim of cycling up the road to the station at the top of Mullach Mor. David, who is 73, is currently on the return leg of a sponsored bike ride from his home near Market Rasen in Lincolnshire to Shetland and back, and Tuesday was supposed to be a ‘rest day’! As those of you who’ve done it will know just walking to the Top of the Hill is a challenge so David’s plan was met with a little bit of scepticism (‘He’s crazy!’, ‘It can’t be done!’).

David Post - Start

David about to start his challenge - you can just see the radar station at the top of the hill behind the power station

However he managed it, and perhaps even more amazingly survived the ride back down the hill!

David Post - Down

On his way back down!

David is raising money for St George’s Church in Baghdad, which distributes food aid to around 4000 people per week, operates a clinic which gives healthcare to around 2000 patients per month and also runs a Kindergarten and School. The church provides these services free of charge to all, regardless of religious belief or political allegiance. If you’d like to see where David’s been already you can find out more here. If you’re as impressed as we are and you’d like to sponsor him you can do so here.
