Some unusual birds

13 May 2011

During a trip around the island, Angus Campbell from 'Kilda Cruises' took this great photograph of a Night Heron.  This is a very unusual bird in these regions and a first for St Kilda.

A few weeks previously, two Purple Heron were spotted in the Village Bay area.

There is always plenty to see and hear when walking through the Village, including these more familiar looking species....

Staff working on the base also keep an eye out for birds.  Thanks to Alastair for letting me know about this Shoveler.
