By Royal Appointment

6 September 2004

We've spent the past few days with Alex Hale and Steve Boyle from the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS from now on!), having a closer look at some of the archaeological monuments and landscape.  Alex and Steve have a wealth of field survey experience in other areas of Scotland, most recently in Eigg, Muck and Mingulay, all in the Hebrides.  So its very useful re-visiting sites and discussing the similarities and differences in the archaeology of St Kilda compared to other Hebridean islands.

Unfortunately the weather hasn't been too good and they haven't yet experienced the awesome landscape at its best, but have experienced the down side of Atlantic Scotland's weather and certainly appreciated a hot bath at the end of the day.  Its very nice being a modern St Kildan and coming back to a warm dry home.
