American visitor

11 June 2015

Much excitement earlier this evening when a Bonaparte's Gull was spotted by a member of the Work Party in Village Bay! Small and delicate looking, this gull is found mainly in North America with occasional sightings in the UK. This could be a first record for St Kilda but I'll need to do some research before we know for certain....Bonapartes GullBonapartes Gull

Update! 12/6/15 - this is actually the second record, the first was on June 29, 2007 when a 1st winter individual was sighted at Ruaival.  Thanks to Will Miles for the information and to Peter (WP2) for dashing across the Bay to share news of the bird with us.
