‘Sorry fulmar!’ I said as I disturbed a bird sitting on its nest. Once I had gotten over the shock and smell of fulmar vomit (stinky oil) all over my trousers, I looked down at the nest and got a surprise.

It’s unusual to see two eggs in a fulmar nest and after asking around it seems that most two-egg clutches are the result of two females, rather than one female laying twice.

I’ll keep an eye on the nest over the coming weeks and see whether both eggs hatch…
