Evacuation Anniversary

30 August 2016
This year marks the 86th anniversary of the evacuation of St Kilda and is particularly poignant with the death in April of Rachel Johnson, the last person born on Hirta.  While the NTS regret this passing and the end of several thousand years of life on the isle, their descendants live on in communities across the world and we welcome them and their families when they join the over 5,000 visitors who come to this special place each year.
